About this site

Dutch Survival Hacks exists because moving to the Netherlands comes with a pile of admin that nobody hands you in one place. BSN, DigiD, zorgverzekering, rental market quirks — the official sites are thorough, but they do not tell you what to do first or how it feels on the ground.

Who writes this

I am not an immigration lawyer, tax advisor, or relocation agency — and this site is not legal or financial advice. What I am is someone who grew up around expats and repats: international schools, people rotating in and out of the Netherlands, and all the paperwork that came with it. I never held an expat contract myself, but I watched friends and family hit the same walls — gemeente queues, DigiD letters that never arrived, surprise deadlines for health insurance.

That perspective shaped Dutch Survival Hacks: explain the system in plain English, in the order that actually helps, without pretending the process is effortless. When rules change (30% ruling, thresholds, holiday dates), pages get reviewed; the articles are written to be useful, not to sound authoritative beyond what general research and experience support.
